Designing work spaces with creativity and productivity in mind

Given my background as an engineer, it is not surprising that I used to hold a fairly functional view of office space.  My view was that it had to tick all the boxes in terms of technical purpose; desks at the right height, drawers that slid open nicely etc.

However, of late I have begun to see the benefit of being a little more creative.  If we are willing to give more thought to our work spaces, in terms of their look and feel then we can create an environment where innovation is more likely.  More than that we can also design the space to provide different types of work area, i.e. not just straight-forward desks.  Such spaces can be a great help in increasing productivity.

If you are in need of some office inspiration why not head over to the Inspire page at Office Snapshots to see some great examples.

If you’re still not convinced, this article might help you.  In it, an office re-design is attributed to the following:

  • A 30% reduction in real estate costs
  • Increased productivity
  • Enhanced market reputation and ability to attract and retain top talent
  • Increased employee mobility
  • Benefits for the environment
