Patrick Lencioni has spoken at the GLS before, stepping to fill a session at short notice last year. Although he works in the secular world of management and leadership he is a committed Christian and he brings a deep understanding of both worlds to his messages.
Helpfully, Patrick cut through a lot of ‘stuff’ that surrounds the topic of mission and vision statements and took us back to four key things which will make our organisations healthy. Of course, this is a challenge in itself when too often we focus only on how smart our organisations are and neglect to consider their health.
It is perhaps difficult to pull out anything as more significant than anything else, but I do think leaders need to pay particular attention to organisation clarity. So much hangs on this and without it everything else can end up in a mess.
Here is the session breakdown:
I. Building a Healthy Organisation
a. The single greatest competitive advantage
b. It must be smart and healthy
II. Build and Maintain a Cohesive Leadership Team
III. Achieve Organisational Clarity
a. Why do we exist?
b. How do we behave?
c. What do we do?
d. How will we succeed?
e. What is most important in the organisation right now?
f. Who must do what?
IV. Over-communicate
V. Reinforce Clarity Through Human Systems
